AdSense for Domains (AFD)

AdSense for Domains was Google's programme for showing search ads on parked domains; Google removed parked domains as an ad surface on 10 February 2026.

The short answer, from the The Arbitrage Desk glossary

AdSense for Domains, or AFD, was the Google product that funded most of the domain parking industry for many years. A domain with no real website would show a page of keyword links and Google search ads, and the owner, usually through a parking company, received a share of each ad click.

AFD was wound down in stages. In September 2024 Google stopped automatically including new Google Ads accounts on parked domains. In early 2025 it announced that existing advertisers would also be opted out by default, leaving ads on parked domains only for those who chose to opt back in. Trade press reported that parking revenue fell steeply through 2025. Then Google stated that parked domains would cease to be an ad surface in the search partner network from 10 February 2026, and the opt-in setting disappeared.

The consequences ran wide. Domain industry reporting describes large job cuts and businesses put up for sale. Domain owners have moved toward Related Search on Content on developed pages, the yahoo feed, or zero-click parking, which security researchers link to much higher rates of scams and malware.

Think of it like this

AFD was like a sponsor paying for billboards on empty plots across a city. When the sponsor stopped paying, the plots were still there but the income was gone.
