What GoDaddy (Afternic / CashParking) does
GoDaddy sells domain names and website services to millions of small businesses. It is in this directory because of what happens to names that are registered but not yet used. GoDaddy's CashParking programme shows ads on customers' parked domains, and its Afternic marketplace, bought from NameMedia in 2013, lists domains for sale.
GoDaddy also became a large owner of domains in its own right. In 2015 it paid $28.1 million for more than 200,000 names from Marchex, one of the early domain-monetisation companies.
In January 2026 GoDaddy told CashParking customers that the programme was moving from Google's AdSense for Domains to Google Related Search on Content and Yahoo ads, with traffic routed to whichever is predicted to perform better.
How it makes money
Overwhelmingly from domain registrations, hosting and commerce subscriptions. Parking and aftermarket sales are a small part.
Where it meets invalid traffic
Because so many domains sit on its servers, look-alike names are a target for abusers. In December 2025 Infoblox described an operator exploiting a one-letter misspelling of GoDaddy's name-server domain.
