What IAC (now People Inc.) does
IAC is a holding company chaired by Barry Diller that has owned and spun off many internet businesses. For search arbitrage it matters as the long-time owner of Ask Jeeves, bought in 2005 for $1.85 billion, and of the search segment built around it.
In 2026 IAC shut that segment, closing Ask.com on 1 May. It then changed its legal name to People Incorporated, after its publishing business, and its shares began trading on Nasdaq under the ticker PPLI on 4 June 2026. The old IAC ticker no longer exists.
How it makes money
Today mainly digital publishing and advertising at People Inc., plus investments. Until 2026 its search segment earned a share of search-ad revenue.

Earnings, explained
People Inc. Q2 revenue dips 1%, but digital and net earnings surge
People Inc. (formerly IAC) reported Q2 2026 revenue of $436.7 million, down 1% year-over-year. Digital revenue grew 6% to $290 million, while total Adjusted EBITDA rose 15% to $55.9 million. The company posted a net earnings jump to $506.9 million, largely due to a $721.7 million unrealized gain on its MGM investment. Operating loss widened to $14.3 million, but digital operating income and margins improved. No explicit forward guidance was provided in the release.
Despite a slight decline in overall revenue, People Inc.'s digital business is growing and more profitable, showing resilience as print declines and the company exits its search segment. The large net earnings boost is tied to investment gains, not core operations, highlighting the impact of market factors outside the company's direct control.
