What is domain parking?

Domain parking is earning money from a web address that has no real website. A parking company points the domain at a simple page of ads or links. When people arrive, usually by typing the address directly or following an old link, and click an ad, the domain owner receives a share. It was long funded by Google search ads.

Short answer · The Arbitrage Desk

Domain parking monetises direct navigation, the habit of typing a guess such as "cheapflights" straight into the address bar, plus leftover traffic to an expired domain. The traditional parked domain showed a list of keywords leading to search ads, supplied through AdSense for Domains.

The same template later became a vehicle for arbitrage, with buyers sending paid traffic to parked pages. That use is one reason Google gave advertisers an opt-out and then retired the product. Parking also has a darker edge in typosquatting, registering misspellings of famous names, which is unlawful in many jurisdictions. Today parking continues on a smaller scale through other ad feeds and zero-click parking.
