What Media.net does
Media.net was founded in 2010 by the Indian entrepreneur Divyank Turakhia. Its idea was to bring search-ad money to ordinary web pages: a publisher places a Media.net unit on an article, the unit shows keywords related to the page, and a click leads to sponsored listings drawn from the Yahoo and Bing network.
That design is a close cousin of today's Related Search on Content and is why arbitrage tools list Media.net among their feed integrations. In August 2016 a Chinese consortium led by Miteno Communication Technology agreed to buy the company for $900 million, then one of the largest ad-tech deals on record.
Media.net now describes itself as a sell-side platform that combines search signals with other audience data.
How it makes money
Keeps a share of the ad revenue earned by its units on publisher pages and pays publishers the rest.
Where it meets invalid traffic
As an intermediary between search advertisers and thousands of publisher pages, it has to filter low-quality and Made-for-arbitrage inventory to protect its upstream demand.
