CodeFuel

Perion's search-monetisation unit, which supplied Bing ads to publishers, apps and extensions.

Tel Aviv, Israel · perion.com

What CodeFuel does

CodeFuel is the brand under which Perion ran its search business. It offered publishers, app developers and browser-extension makers a way to earn money from search: add a search box or a results page, and CodeFuel supplies the ads and pays a share.

The unit's fortunes followed its main partner. Perion's chief executive, Tal Jacobson, previously ran CodeFuel, and the company's own biography of him credits the unit's relationship with Microsoft. When Microsoft changed its terms in 2024, CodeFuel's revenue fell sharply. In February 2025 Perion folded CodeFuel and its other brands into one platform, and the CodeFuel website now redirects to Perion's.

How it makes money

Receives a share of search-ad revenue from the search provider and passes most of it to the publishers whose users searched.

Where it meets invalid traffic

Search distribution through extensions and bundled software has a history of abuse, including search hijacking. Search providers police it closely, and distributors carry the consequences.
