What is a channel ID in a search feed?
A channel ID is a label attached to each ad request so revenue can be reported separately. A publisher might use one channel per campaign, traffic source or keyword group. The feed's reports then show clicks and earnings for each channel, which is how you learn which traffic is making money and which is being discounted.
Without a Channel ID, feed revenue arrives as one lump and cannot be matched to spend. With channels, the tracker can join feed reports to its own visit data and work out RPV for each campaign.
Channels are limited in number, so they are a scarce resource. Providers hand out a fixed allocation, and Google's 2025 restrictions reduced reporting channels for publishers not in good standing. Teams therefore rotate channels between tests and reserve stable ones for proven campaigns. Channels are also how the engine and the provider isolate bad traffic: a deduction or warning usually names the channel affected. A Style ID is the equivalent label for the visual design used.
