Creative

A creative is the actual advertisement a person sees: its image or video, headline, text and button.

The short answer, from the The Arbitrage Desk glossary

"Creative" is trade shorthand for the ad itself. A native ad's creative is a thumbnail and a headline. A social creative might be a short video with a caption and a "Learn more" button. A search ad's creative is its headline and description lines.

The creative does the first and hardest job in search arbitrage: persuading someone who was not searching for anything to click. The promise it makes is its ad angle. A strong creative lifts CTR, which usually lowers the price of each click. Because audiences tire of seeing the same ad (ad fatigue), buyers produce new versions constantly through creative testing.

Creatives are also the main compliance risk. An ad that promises something the page does not deliver is a misleading ad. Google now ties the creative directly to the feed: for traffic the publisher controls that arrives at a related search page, the complete wording of the ad, including titles, descriptions, button text and any words in images or video, must be sent verbatim in the referrerAdCreative parameter. This requirement took effect on 1 November 2025.

An example

A compliant native creative might read "What a new roof costs in 2026" with a photo of a roofer at work, leading to an article that actually gives price ranges.
