What Tonic does
Tonic is a monetisation platform for media buyers. A buyer creates a campaign in Tonic, receives a link, and advertises that link on a traffic source such as Facebook or Taboola. Visitors land on a page with search terms, click one, and see sponsored results. Tonic collects the money from the search engine and pays the buyer a share.
The buyer never signs a contract with Google. Tonic holds the relationship, supplies the pages and the reporting, and carries the compliance burden. This is what the industry means by a hosted feed.
Tonic has been part of Team Internet Group since the 2019 acquisition of Team Internet AG. The platform describes itself as invitation-based, with tracking by API, pixel and server-to-server callback.
How it makes money
Keeps a share of the search-ad revenue its publishers' traffic generates and pays out the remainder.
Where it meets invalid traffic
Its model relies on what it calls double confirmation: the user clicks an ad and then chooses a keyword, which is meant to show real interest. It still has to police publishers, because misleading ads or bot traffic put the shared feed at risk.
